"Anybody is capable of being a quarterback, regardless of whether or not they have a penis between their legs."

At least that's what Collette Ellison's father told her at a young age.

"It's easy to throw a football twenty yards, but to catch the football while running full speed and blocking defensive backs and safeties? That takes hard work, strength, concentration, and commitment. But do you want to know what the real secret to being the best wide receiver is, Lottie? Adjusting."

At seventeen years old, Collette was well trained in adjusting. She adjusted in different schools around the world, due to the many times her father was deployed. Now officially settling down in a small yet prestigious town in Colorado, Collette has to learn how to adjust again. And maybe that's why playing wide-receiver for the state's number one football program comes naturally to her.

Because it's a ruthless game, but so is love.

**[A/N]: This story is rated R because of the "strong mature" language. (There is just a lot of cussing.)

Not every blonde is stupid. In the South if you're a beautiful, blonde, blue-eyed girl high expectations are made. Either you're not extremely smart, so you find yourself a suitable husband to take care of you. Or you are smart and you just pretend to be dumb so you find yourself a suitable husband to take care of you. All her life Avery Skinner has been told what to do and how to do it- by everyone. By her mother, the girls she calls friends, the guys in school, teachers, family, even Mark the mailman. Needless to say, she's sick of it. Its time Avery took control of her life or at least get a firm grip on the sucker. She's loved football ever since she was a little girl. Yet she could never play because ladies aren't supposed to do such barbaric things. Especially in the South- unless its a rodeo and you're wearing those ridiculously tight outfits that show you're navel or showing you can hold your liquor. Avery has longed to be on the field, throwing the ball instead of cheering on the team her dad coaches that can't seem to win. Then her best friend Austin forces Avery to and for sometime everyone is fooled. But the truth can only be hidden for so long. The moment the townsfolk of Stonehenge, Alabama learned it was a girl under that helmet, was the moment true colors showed. It hasn't been easy and it won't get any better but Avery is here to play. * Avery is going to face REAL life problems, and not nice people. She's going to deal with sexual harassment, mean words, rude people, pregnancy, injuries, steroids, etc.. In this story I want to exemplify how sexist and cruel humans can be. There will be hard moments, but I want to put it out there because it IS a serious problem. Harsh language and such will be present. You have been warned, don't read it then complain. "Are you sure you're okay, sweetie?" she asks. I take the ice pack back. I nod, but it hurts. My brain feels jostled by the littlest movements. "Yeah," I gasp, holding in any acknowledgment of pain. "I'm fine. Thanks." She glances down, and I catch her eyeing my bruised shins. They took the brunt of the impact. "Football," I explain. She nods. "That's a rough sport," she says. A pause. She walks back to her desk. Then, she stops. She turns around. She looks me in the eyes. Her face is solemn. "Hit 'em harder," she instructs. I nod and almost smile. "I will." *********************************************** It's 1998, and seventeen-year-old Stephanie "Stevie" Rogers is attempting the unthinkable: she wants to be the first female football player at Truman High. Too bad the team, headed by her ex and a sexist coach, won't let it happen. Then of course there's her sexist step-dad, who can't know she's playing football or her life as she knows it would end. If it weren't for her cute guitar-playing best friend, Calvin, all hope might be lost. But with his help, and the discovery of a secret so scandalous it could rock the entire school, she may finally get her time under the stadium lights. *************************************************************************** "You're outnumbered. You need allies if you're gonna survive the season. These guys are gonna have your back. You need them." "I don't need anyone," I insist. "Ha," he hiccups. "Yes, actually, you do." He ploinks me on the nose. I scowl. "No one is invincible." I continue to scowl. He sighs. "Just trust me on this one. Okay?" My face softens a little. He's just trying to help. "Fine," I comply. "But don't expect me to smile about it." He grins. "That's too bad. You're pretty when you smile." "Shut up."

Emmie Cano has been playing for USC for the past three years. She is not only the best player on the team but one of the best players in the country. She has an average point of 22 per game, and almost no one can guard her. That is, except for her competition, Paige Bueckers. Paige Bueckers is slightly above her with a 23-per-game average, securing her as the #1 spot as the best women's college basketball player. Emmie and Paige have been switching between the #1 and #2 spots for the past 3 years, with Emmie having the spot her freshman year. Everyone knows them as the biggest rivals in women's college basketball. Every game between USC v. UCONN becomes intense, with the highest watched and populated game of the entire season, with fans dying to see the interactions and rivalry between Emmie and Paige. The tension is high, and the thought of Paige makes Emmie's blood boil. While USC has treated her well in the past, Emmie was shocked to find an offer from UCONN's coach in her phone for her incoming senior year. Her first instinct was to ignore it and laugh, but then she thought. UCONN was closer to her family, given they live in NYC. Emmie, with her dad in a coma back home, time zones, being unable to see her family, and being on the opposite side of the world all took a toll on Emmie. Not only was UCONN more practical, but it was her dream since she was in 8th grade. She was not offered a spot at UCONN in the freshman recruitment process, and USC became her best offer. Although the thought of being on the same team as Paige enraged her, she knew Paige could not let her stop her. It was a challenging choice to make. USC felt like home for Emmie. From the warm weather to the team to her friends, she felt complete. Yet basketball is her life, and she knew UCONN could increase her skill and give her a better experience as a player and her life. So, after talking to UCONN's coach, her decision became clear. Emmie is going to UCONN.

I honestly didn't realize how broken I was. I just figured that if I shut all my feelings out that they would go away. They didn't. They came back strong as ever. And I did the worst thing that I could do. I let my feelings get the best of me. My daddy told me to never let anyone walk over me. And yet that is exactly what everybody does. It's like he knew that this was gonna happen like he wanted me to be prepared. Too bad I didn't listen. And now no one's here to help me. And then the new kid comes along. Jake Johnson. He caught my eye the first time I saw him. I can look at him and tell that he had a story. And I wanted to know it. He helped me in a way that I thought nobody else could. He was there for me when no one else was . Now it's my turn, to be there for him. I will not let my feelings or emotions get in the way of me helping someone that I love. Join me, Charlie Campbell, on my ride through a lot of different emotions but overall Finding who you belong with. #846 in Short Story. 7/22/17 #150 in Short Story. 8/3/17 This is my first story!
