In a world filled with magic, Katla, a gifted healer, has lived in the outskirts of the capital her whole life helping those in need. Here the tight alleyways and dark homes are filled with those willing to thieve, rob, and kill for their next meal. Despite the darkness that runs through these streets, all come to Katla for healing. But rumors of Katla's abilities have reached the King, and he has summoned her to the palace.
King Bion has been stricken by a deadly poison within his own castle, and although Katla is unable to remove the toxin from the King's body, to everyone's surprise, she is able to hold off its effects with her abilities. From a healer in the outskirts of the capital, Katla has now become the King's personal doctor. But she must be careful because whoever poisoned the King will also be after her.
Shinra, the second and forgotten prince, has returned to the palace after being away for seven years. He's come back to his father bedridden with illness and his two brothers now scheming for the throne, but he has no interest in his twisted family anyway. Being born with no magic, Shinra has always felt the brunt of the court's cruelty, but especially from his father. So when he comes back to the palace and sees it filled with panic and fear, he's quite happy to sit back and let things run their course. But there's one thing standing in his way of finally ridding himself of his father.
Katla. She's beautiful and kind and her easy smile is filled with a warmth that Shinra has never felt before. He feels his dead heart heal and when the forces that poisoned the King go after Katla too, he'll do anything to protect her.
