All the earth is torn asunder. There used to be grass, and the sun used to be golden. Children played outside, climbing trees with smiles on their faces and grass stains on their knees. People worried about a million things that would soon be irrelevant, continuing without a clue of the disaster to come. Centuries later, what little is left of humanity survives in a society constructed beneath the surface of a glass dome, the world outside converted to little more than a desert wasteland. Survival is a routine rather than an effort, and all rules are surpassed by only one: if you want to survive, you never leave the dome. There's nothing alive out there. The radiation that soaks the earth makes sure of that. Until one day, someone finds a bloody, dust-covered handprint on the outside of the glass. Nothing will ever be the same again. I am not from this planet. Hell, I am technically not from this galaxy. However, that doesn't change the fact I am here now, and my job is to save what I can on this forsaken planet and what's left of its inhabitants. The problem is that not everyone wants to be saved. I know what you're thinking. You can't save those who don't want to be saved. I bloody well agree. The ones who sent me don't care what you or I think, though. All they care about is numbers. They need a certain success rate to continue to get funding for their "expeditions" and "peacekeeping" efforts. I use both terms loosely here. However, that's what they put on their records, and it's what sounds good and looks suitable to their investors. So this is the way it's going to be. So be it! Oh, did I forget to mention the Universe decided I was the lucky girl to help find the one person who could save us all from self-destruction? Yea, that is a shitty idea, but once again, no one cares what I think.

The zombies are smart, too smart. They can learn to hide themselves. Some of them disguise themselves to look like normal people. We tell them apart by checking their eyes. Zombies have enlarged pupils compared to humans. Complying means giving in to a new set of rules and changing her entire life. "Or else" means she has no chance of going home again. Men, stripped of purpose, exist as relics of the past, serving only as pets in a system that mirrors a hive, where women reign supreme. Biologically, mothers are the gatekeepers of life. Historically, survival forced men and women into partnership-men as protectors and providers, sometimes oppressors, while women adapted to survive under natural pressures. But when humanity masters nature, this necessity vanishes. With no war, famine, or struggle, cooperation dissolves. Robots and AI take over all labor, while science frees women from biological dependence on men, allowing reproduction through stem-cell technology. Men are no longer needed for survival, yet they are not entirely discarded, kept instead as sentimental pets. This is the final form of feminism: a system that abandons equality under the guise of progress, reducing men to a perpetual loop of servitude. This person took her in and treated her as his own daughter. After a DNA test she has found a family that yes is different from other families but she was a test tube baby. As she enjoys her new home and family she gets kidnapped. She taken back to her first home where they test and harm her. She finds others like her and promises that they will all get out. She promised and she plans on keeping that promise.

Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! Another man's grief of losing his dying wife is tempered by a ghostly haunting. The first manned mission to Mars reveals a personal past for one colonist. An Indian Brave concludes a ritual as a rite of passage to adulthood. The end of the world brings a woman and her ailing father together for the last time. A man has an opportunity to right one wrong from his past and realizes the true meaning of regret. Another man's senses are replaced one by one with something alien. A golfer in the aftermath of the apocalypse sets out on a quest to keep the game he loves alive. A conversation between two sides of one man's psyche reveals something in us all. A snowbound woman holds the fate of the world literally in her hands. Once all sides of the box are revealed, the homeless man discovers the promise of a new future built on memories from a past he never had. The Box Has Twelve Sides is a collection of thirteen stories all connected as visions given to a homeless man in search of his future.
