16 year old Carter Malone feels left out of almost everything. He's shy, depressed, feels unloved, and is gay. Malone finds himself one day where he's in a situation between cutting, committing suicide, or to just keep getting bullied. Growing up in a small town in California, he works at a fast food restaurant and meets an unexpected "friend" who has a lot of friends, a big house, rich parents, could possibly get anything he wanted anytime and anywhere, and could possibly become Carter's guardian to keep him safe and out of harm's way while his parents are away for 3 months celebrating their time out of jail. So Carter barely makes enough money to keep food on his table in his parents' small, cramped apartment.
