In this universe of Super Paper Mario, everything is surrounded by darkness. There is no balance, only small glimmers of light protecting those from the impending night. Ancient folklore of Flipside tells of a young woman named Timpani who disappeared from the village only to vanish for good, and the message of doom trailing fast behind her. Four monster hunters are hired to inspect one of the abandoned churches at Flopside, only to reawaken a blood-thirsty count.

Why was the count sealed away in his coffin for so many years?

What happens when an odd member of the count's team takes a fascination with one of the hunters?

And what is with Tippi's interest in these monsters?
