The Curse of the Maiden was the beginning of it all. It's an ancient curse that binds women to men, in exchange of the gift of magic. If women aren't bound to men by eighteen years old, fate will soon turn them into valuable statues. Marauders seek out these statues to steal, destroy, and then sell as various goods. 

Ever since his sister's death, Leander Veille, has become plagued with a curse of his own. This curse and his wicked father have him isolated in the palace, with only his caretaker, Marigold, to talk too. Leander's pacific lifestyle gets turned on its head when Marigold suddenly runs off to save her family from marauders. Leander makes a choice to leave his life behind, despite the wrath of his father, and save Marigold and her family.
