It is the summer of 1965 in Monterey, California. Donny Watson is a young twenty-year-old kid fooling around in a local community college when he receives a letter of draft in the mail. He attempts to flunk the U.S. Army entrance exam by intentionally selecting the wrong answers, thinking the Army will throw him out because he is too dumb. To his dismay, the Army doesn't care how smart you are, they have a job for everyone. His Army Drill Instructor, SSG Willie White confronts Donny and gives him a choice. Continue in his noncooperation path or try out for one of the most elite units in the military. The story follows his path.
