The story starts at the end of Love Never Dies, or LND, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. You may want to read this after you at least read the Wikipedia page or listened to the soundtrack. Switching between Erik's and Gustave's point of view, it tells the story of what happens after Christine died. Gustave learns some disturbing secrets about his true father. Then, the story takes place eight years later with Gustave going through some family initiation where he, Erik, Madame Giry, Meg, and Miss Fleck bump into an old friend. We then travel thirty-one years to 1919 to deal with some unfinished business.
