I try to ignore the chill that travels down my spine, but just in case, I pocket my earbuds and keep a tight grip on my phone. In my other hand, I clutch my keys in between my knuckles. My eyes dart in every direction as I walk. I want to run, but instinct tells me that something will chase me. My shoes lightly splash in puddles forming on the sidewalk. My steps are loud, too loud. I take a quieter step and hear another splash that isn't my own. I glance behind me, but see no one. Fear tugs at my heart, regardless. Adrenaline enhances my senses. I'm not alone in this alley.
