Gil Saltzman is a Jewish girl, living in Germany during Adolf Hitlers rise to power. Her family died in a car accident at the age of six and she stays with her sick grandmother. This is the story of a girls journey through the darkest moment in German history. She does meet the Kommodant of the Mauthausen camp in Austria.
August Jaeger is the new commander of the Mauthausen camp. He is in need of a new maid for his villa. Who will he choose? His parents want him to get married soon by nagging. That's why he joined the Schutzstaffel (SS). To get away from his parents and to make the Fuhrer proud.
