The death of his grandfather has left a power vacuum in the Chance family, but before Connor can inherit, he must battle his stepfather and step grandmother, who claim they have rights through a child. But nothing is known about the child. Connor does not even know where it is.
To help him locate the child and validate--or deny--his stepfather's claim, Connor calls on Jack Miller, sometimes security guard, sometimes P.I. Jack, a jack of all trades, has ties to Connor's own childhood, but before their friendship--or anything else--could develop back then, life separated them.
Now, under the guise of husband, Jack enters the Chance family and begins his investigation. Before long, however, feelings rise and Connor and Jack get caught up in the marital roleplay, forgetting that it is, in fact, just supposed to be an act to allow Jack access to the family.
But the more secrets they uncover, and the more they learn just how far the family would go to claim Connor's birthright, the more Jack realizes that he just might be forced to make an impossible decision.
To save the last Chance, Jack would have to pick between saving the child--or saving Connor, the love of his life.
