Marks.

Everyone has marks. They take the form of bright, unnatural colors on skin, forming as a result of emotional pain.

Mephisto knows this. He knows that Faust has marks. What he doesn't get is why there's a new mark on his face, bright and vivid, that he refuses to explain. He doesn't get why Faust doesn't want him to know about his other ones.

Octaveus was depressed. He knew it, but no one else did. He hid it, just as he hid his scars. He wasn't human either; he hid that too. He hid almost everything about himself from everyone, in order to minimize the ridicule. His mental state, his thoughts, his scars, even his questionable sexuality. But that only fed into his sadness. Drew was insecure. He didn't like standing up for himself in fear of saying something wrong. He didn't even change in the main locker room for PE, he went in the stalls. He was anxious. He wanted to know what was happening and when so that he can prepare for all possible outcomes of that event. And he was gay; his family knew and supported him, but no one else knew. He was too scared of how they would react to tell them. Jessie knew his brother would be teased. It was really a fact. Humanity wasn't too good at accepting of different beings. No matter how human Octaveus made himself look, he couldn't hide his unnaturally pale skin that no matter how hard he tried would not tan or his yellow cat eyes. He just had to try to fit in, same as the rest of their family. Seth was the school bad boy, and secret werewolf. His hobbies included pushing around the Freshman, flirting relentlessly with any and every attractive popular girl in sight, and trying not to think about Octaveus. He didn't want other people to find out about his thoughts on the emo new kid. So, naturally, he made Octaveus's school day a living hell. But he still couldn't figure out why this new kid intrigued him so much, besides that he was obviously not human. {BOOK 1 OF THE 'Scars I Hide' SERIES} *CAUTION: Mature for scenes of self-harm and suicide, PG-13 language, graphic violence, and some sexual topics* IF YOU READ THIS, DO NOT SKIP THE INTRO. "Agatha, why don't you show us your battle scars?" Jen smiles whilst saying this, not in an unkind way at all, but Agatha swallows the lump of apprehension in her throat. Logically, she knows that Jen does not mean to say this to embarrass her, but there's a hot flash of humiliation in the pit of her stomach. Obviously, she's being irrational; nobody knows about.. those ones. Not even Rio. She forces the heat creeping up her neck down and says, "I don't have any." OR Agathario angst. Everyone needs a hug. Old scars. Girls kissing. Lesbian feelings. You get it. (Now a chapter fic! Chapter one was written as a one shot, and it can be read as a stand-alone.) originally posted on ao3
