Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. Athens worked hard and he was talented, but that didn't mean he was a star, or even that his hard work paid off. Athens ran because it fought off the rest of his life. It was hard to think about where he would sleep that night when he was winning a race. After narrowly winning a race that he wasn't even supposed to run, against the state's best runners, someone finally notices his potential and takes a chance on him. But while this new coach wanted a runner, Athens only wanted a family. Can Athens navigate the pressures of discovering his origins, learning to live with a family, and performing at a level he never thought possible without falling to jagged, unfixable pieces? If he works hard enough, can he make himself into an actual person? Someone with a future?
