She aims her gun at me in an instant, and the men in the room draw their weapons, all pointing at her.

She grabs the file, and turns her back on me, her heels clicking against the marble floor as she heads toward the door. I watch her walk away, her hips swaying like she's too damn comfortable in a place she shouldn't even be. I want to feel anger and irritation, but what I feel instead is something more dangerous something that I'm not ready to name. I've dealt with stubborn people before, but Valentina, she's a different breed.

"Valentina," I call, keeping my voice controlled, like I'm not about to lose my mind over the mess I'm in. She doesn't stop. I didn't expect her to. She's too damn proud.
