After the rumbling and following Eren's death, Mikasa had tried the military but it kept reminding her of rimes when she wouldn't cry next to a small grave under the tree where she, Armin and Eren used to play all the time when they were little. She was tired of seeing everyone move on, until she stumbled upon Historia, who also seems to have quite a lot of difficulties with her own life.
