Speed skating is a sport where you turn left over and over again at insane speeds with a lack of protective equipment, slicing through the ice with a sharp blade. It's one of the most unusual and intense sports in the world and is commonly overlooked.

Jordan Parks is a girl who grew up skating, falling in love with the way she could glide forward as if she was taking flight. At a young age, she and five of her best friends vowed that they'd one day skate together on the short-track speed skating Olympic team. But Jordan was only a child back then. She was still naïve to the way dreams and asperations could change overnight.

After high school, she goes on to attend Humber College in Toronto, Canada. There she meets an odd bunch of new friends. As well as an old face from her inline days. Kai Kendrick, her childhood best friend's rival.

[actively editing] With her nose in books and his brawn getting him nowhere on or off the ice, they find themselves drawn together, sharing their baggage and learning what it might mean for each of them to love again. Jake Bryers is no stranger to the pressures of being a professional hockey player. It's something that he's dealt with consistently for the past fifteen years. Throughout his career, he's experienced it all-the electric thrill of winning divisions and conference titles, and even making it to the Stanley Cup Finals on more than one occasion. His dream was always to skate the cup at least once, but as he enters the late stage of his long, tumultuous career, he finds himself struggling to perform like he once had as a younger, inspired player. Harper Clark has been proficient at one thing throughout her life-constantly moving forward without really going anywhere. After having moved to the Big Apple to pursue a better life outside of the dangerous one she found herself leading in the Midwest, she finds herself stagnating after getting her degree from Columbia. She quietly enjoys her job at the public library, treading water while the undeniable feeling of discontent grows stronger within her. It's nothing short of fate when Jake and Harper happen to cross paths at the library, and though their lives couldn't be any more different, they find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another as they try to navigate mending each other's wounded hearts.

"You just have no idea." His voice was thick with restraint. "W-what," I breathed. His gaze flicked to my lips as his thumb stroked again. The calloused pad against my soft flesh sent goosebumps down my arms. His once warm eyes were dark as they lifted and bared into my soul. "What you do to... men." His husky whisper weakened my knees. I almost fell but his other hand settled on my hip, pulling me closer to him. "What you do to me," he added on a breath. The hand on my jaw shifted. His fingers left trails of tingles as he slipped them back slowly, under my earlobe and into my curls. *************************************************** As a young girl, Charlotte Avery's favourite pass time was daydreaming about her Prince Charming: Archer Johnson. When a total stranger knows what eats you, maybe they are your one true love. Even if you don't know it yet. || On Friday the 13th, two twenty-something, Daya and Mike, end up in a mutually beneficial arrangement: she is his caregiver after he breaks his foot; he provides room&board to help her out with a teeny-tiny cash flow problem. Not a whiff of a romance, strictly business. And for a while, all is good... for about five minutes, that is. What can an overweight man, a video game obsessed librarian, know about her quitting a challenging sport of figure skating, Daya scoffs. He needs to get off her case and sort out his binge eating! What does a celery-chewing skating diva care about his failure as a PhD candidate, Mike wonders. She is just replacing her dreams with his non-existing problems instead of pursuing her one true passion! With the two already teetering on the brink of mutually assured destruction, oil splashes onto the flames when Daya resumes her never-ending quest for skating triumph at Canadian Nationals. (Well, that should make Mike happy, right? Right?) But isn't there *something* worth fighting for *together*? Like, you know, love? COMPLETED.
