In 2012, Brice Thompson won the election, beating his opponent Joseph Collins. All seemed well and quiet until 2014 when people started disappearing.

Anna Collins, daughter of Joseph Collins, finds herself and her friends in charge of a resistance group after the sudden disappearance of her parents and brother. She hatches a brilliant plan to travel back in time to stop Brice from becoming president and giving the title to her father. However, her plan goes awry when the rules of time travel work against her.

She meets Sarah One, a runaway from the government, who begs her to bring her back in time. Reluctant, Anna agrees and quickly learns that Sarah is a valuable asset, and friend, to her team. She also discovers how challenging being a leader can be, especially when you're up against someone as powerful as Brice Thompson.

Before It Starts is a novel exploring what it means to lead a revolution, discover a new world, and navigate relationships, all while trying to stop a dystopian society before it has the chance to begin.
