In the golden age of Martian society, androids and virtuosos-humans with phenomenal abilities-prepare to cross the borders of humanity, with inventions as outlandish as androids with emotion, flying vehicles, and even genetically engineering children with stronger virtuous abilities.

A genetically engineered child herself, Seren Weiss is an intern at Virtuous Genetics to study Virtuology. Instead of realizing Seren's potential, the company's CEO, aka her father, uses the internship to watch over her. She's a brilliant prodigy-an overambitious one at that.

Frustrated at her wasted potential, she applies to the final stage of the universal license exam to skip the preliminaries and gets accepted. In preparation for the final stage, she develops a plan to charm the Virtuous oligarchy's leader and CEO of Android X, the renowned artificial intelligence company skilled in developing the world's most complex androids.

As the final stage comes closer and closer, she witnesses the reveal of the first ever android with emotion, and her professor mysteriously vanishes. Anxious but confident that an android could help her land a position in Android X, she's approved to become a beta tester. With the beta testing commenced, she falls into unexplored ethical issues-and into the unexpected personality of her new android partner Aster.

Despite failing the oligarchy's final stage, a pair of doting eyes has her trapped between success and failure-and a reason to seek out the disappearance of her professor. As a threat to humanity's expansion grows, Seren uncovers alarming truths about the costs of enhanced technology, the virtuous oligarchy, and herself.
