Loxwood Clay Pits Limited aims to excavate minerals (principally clay shell) for the purpose of brick making and other construction materials, the development site is located on the old Pallinghurst Estate, located approximately 1.5km to the east/northeast of the village of Loxwood, and immediately west of the A281 Horsham trunk road. This site is underlain by the Weald Clay Formation and is understood to be a principal clay resource for brick making, and it is well located for supplying several relatively local brickworks. The presence of a larger operation at Rudgwick and the long history of small-scale brick-making activities for many years back in the 1800s and early 1900s indicate the notable suitability of the clay resource at the site.
