Lucas is a mortician's assistant who has spent his life secretly helping spirits move on but it is not an ability he makes public. In fact, he has (almost) no friends because he is terrified someone is going to find out and actively avoids people. One day a body shows up in the morgue that looks identical to him and starts a rapid chain of events that pulls Lucas into a world of paranormal conspiracy he never wanted to be a part of... This is part of a longer story! Written for a Reedsy short story contest with the prompt: Write about someone who wants to stay home alone, only for their plans to be disrupted.
