There's an old saying that goes, "People say you don't know what you've got till it's gone. But the truth is, you just never thought you'd ever lose it." And that is exactly the case for Ella Walker and Adam Banks. The dynamic duo - the outgoing and friendly soccer star combined with the quiet and gentle hockey prodigy. When a twisted story tears them apart at the end of seventh grade, right after Adam returns from the Junior Goodwill Games, things aren't good for the next two years. Now both being freshmen and having matured, the pair reconnects and discover why their friendship was ruined. They pick up everything up right where they left off, and it's like no time has passed. They explore what it would be like to be more than friends... something they've both wanted to do for years, but were never able to admit. Adam and Ella think they're finally in the clear, with their friendship and their feelings that are impossible to ignore being stronger than ever... until it's the exact same person who comes along and ruins everything again. When the ultimate betrayal happens, things get messy. And the plan that was simply meant for payback ends up leading to even more problems, plus a major grudge. Will this be the end of Adam and Ella's relationship and their friendship as a whole? Or will their friends band together, showing the pair that all they really need... is each other?
