Ruthie always had a very specific vision of what her life would look like when she was older. She would have the right job, live in the right town, have the right man by her side. All by the time she was at least 23.

But now that she is 22, fresh out of college, not a penny to her name nor a diamond ring in sight, Ruthie is faced with the realization that she will have to move to her small coastal hometown with her parents to figure out her next steps. But Ruthie hasn't been home for more than a week in her four year away at college, and she is anxious to see what old ghosts are waiting for her.

Lathom hasn't always seen eye to eye with his mother, but when she falls ill the summer he is supposed to go to medical school, he chooses to take care of her despite it. He dreamed of getting away from his parents' strong grip and his small town's suffocating inhabitants, but when he sees what the tide has washed in upon his return, will he still want to leave?
