She looked up at me, the night sky above reflecting in her eyes. And suddenly, my heart sank with the realization that she had a whole universe of secrets that shone like the stars inside her eyes. And even if she decided to teach me, I would never be able to understand the constellations they formed. * * * * * Evangeline Amarillo slips into the small town of Nome, Alaska like a ghost. Undetected by anyone except the owner of a tiny cottage she rents on the enormous property of the Bradley's. But soon rumors are flying and Ever is made into a mute abomination. Struggling to hold on to the tattered remnants of invisibility she has left, she keeps quiet. Even when school begins and she attends classes. Everyone accepts the rumors as truth. Everyone, except Nathaniel Bradley. Grandson of the owner, and heir to the Bradley billions, Nate is the town's golden boy. But he can't accept the fragmented lies fed to him about Ever. 'We always say what's gone is gone but it's not, Evan. Past is always present. It's present in my memories, in my scars, in my nightmares.' Ramona's voice croaked. 'You're right, Ramona. Past is and will always be there but it's our choice to look back at it.' Evan's fingers were now drawing slow circles on her arm. 'Past doesn't come back to haunt us, Ramona. We go back to the past, it drags us back to it so that we can haunt ourselves.' Evan said. -- Evan had experienced the glory of love and the sadness too. He was left scarred by the loss of the love of his life. Her parting gift to him - their newborn child Julius, the only string that connected him to life - that kept him alive. He had experienced his heart transforming to a piece of stone at the grave of his wife when he had seen the last drop of his warm tear falling down and disappearing into the ground beneath which she laid. Wanting to concentrate solely on his baby child and to run away from his lost love's memories Evan moved into a small town of Vermont. Things were about to change for him when Ramona, the slightly crazy and extremely infuriating, alcoholic woman next door, might be the only one to make that stone melting. And he, didn't see it coming... But Ramona had her walls up too, to guard her own broken heart which was reminded constantly of the darkness inside it by Evan's uncontrollable anger issues. How would they ever draw a future together when Evan only saw Ramona as a threat to his child and Ramona compared Evan to her past? Next to them they still didn't know that the evil crept in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to pounce with a purpose so vile. And they, didn't see it coming... *** Book 2 of You're Still The One. (YSTO Book2, spin off.) It's a stand alone book.
