After Shuriki conquered the rebellion trying to rid Avalor of her reign, some children were orphaned. Thanks to Esteban, instead of killing the leader's son and wife, she banished the mother and took the boy under her wing. If Esteban was right, the boy, Mateo, would have a magical talent that would work in her favor. Then things change for better or worse when Mateo finds his grandfather's old magic lab.
