He is nineteen years old and throw into a difficult life with no obvious escape. He had great potential as a child, but after being orphaned at age eleven, he was separated from his younger sisters in foster care. He isn't what anyone would call happy, but he doesn't mind. That is, until he gets a letter.
She is a seventeen year old who was raised in a loving family, but has no friends. She's not the prettiest, or the smartest, or the nicest, but she's still content with her life. She is happy spending time with her parents playing board games and going out to eat with her aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She feels normal for the most part. She's fine with her face-only-a-mother-could-love looks, 'B' average grades, and a personality that takes some getting used to, until she gets an English assignment.

Instead of falling into a deep dark pit of self pity (however tempting that may sound), all of this betrayal ends up leading her to the best friends she's ever had and the most exciting school year of her life.
Oh - and a whole new fake boyfriend, to get some revenge on that idiot who dumped her. And who knows. Maybe even more.
