A vial of poison, that was all it took to turn Irene's life upside down. When her twin sister Daryn is poisoned, she goes on the hunt for the antidote and uncovers more than she bargained for. Family secrets, royal scandals, bandits and bloodshed follow her every step of the way. 

And in the centre of all of it stands Mikhail, an untrustworthy thief with a metal arm and a golden heart. With his help, the two of them embark on a journey back home. But the shadows crawl with devils from the past and terrifying whispers of the Count who is out for blood.

Can she return in time to save her family or will she return to their lifeless bodies?
