Normal Girl In a Fairy Tale World

"It can't be." I whispered straining a finger close to the cut through the back of her shirt finding something i'd only seen in fairy tales. "Wings?" As if on cue, once i said the word i was pushed back, landing hard on the ground. "Damn!"
Then i looked over at Cassidy and she wasn't the girl she was just five minutes ago. She was different.
The wings stretched wide from her back, beautiful wings though, a mix of soft pinks and purples and even a glint of silver i thought i saw. Cassidy was howling in pain and her feet were lifting off the ground the more stretched out the wings became. Her eyes remained shut, nothing seemed to be happening if you looked at her face. It was as if it was just a normal thing happening and now that i thought about it, maybe it was normal for her, just not me. I was the outsider here and that point was being made more clear as today went on.
Her howling finally stopped and her face relaxed. Then her head snapped up full of alert, eyes staring straight ahead. She looked like she was an angel. I was still very uncomfortable with what was going on around me. Ten minutes ago we were just two friends out for a weekend of fun meeting up with other friends and now, we were two girls, one normal and one not normal. I needed answers desperately.
"Cassidy? What the hell?" I scrambled backwards, my eyes looking up at my friend only to see her staring back with a calming smile on her face.
