When her cat returns home one night with a piece of bookplate sticking to its fur, Lucy knows she's in trouble. The owner of the bookplate was found dead in the alley behind his store. Lucy's car is gone, replaced with a foggy memory of Detective Melendez pulling her from a car that crashed through the store's front window. She doesn't remember being in the driver's seat, but she can't shake an image from her mind: an open book sliding down a wet windshield bearing the same bookplate.

I opened them to see him coming towards me. I backed up until I hit wall behind me. He kept coming until he was inches from my face. He slammed his hands on either side of my head, blocking any exit. It's only after a long and very confusing assessment as well as noticing the bandages around their jaw that he realizes the demon just had some of their teeth removed and has somehow transported itself to your home in their very loopy state.
