Kiara is accidentally pulled into something dangerous that Rafe has gotten caught up in. As stakes get higher, she finds herself trying to keep JJ out of it to protect him. But he knows her, and he knows Rafe. She's in over her head and won't admit it, but JJ doesn't need her to. He'll get her out anyway.
"What happened?"
He moved to crouch down in front of her, but she couldn't look at him. "Kie."
She didn't answer. The silence dragged.
He ran a hand through his hair and looked off towards the road for a second.
"Okay," he let the rest of the breath out. "Could you just at least tell me who it was?"
She shook her head, finally speaking and meeting his eyes. "No," she said, too quickly. She knew she was stressing him out. He looked stressed out. "I'm sorry. I know you just wanna fix it."
"And I will," he said. "Whether you tell me or not. It's getting fixed. Can you at least.." he rubbed his hand over his forehead. "Can you tell me why you can't tell me? Before I start comin' up with reasons?"
