Fairsage had always been a quiet and serene town encased in a bubble that shielded it from the rest of the world; that is until Caden Carlton moved in from the rivaling town over. Libelle finds her haven ruined the moment she walks in on Caden arguing with a livid man in a beaten-down truck, who happens to be his biological father. Libelle wanted to turn a blind eye, like the rest of the town did when trouble came. She, however, found herself captivated by the only source of excitement in her life: a boy with a haunting past that has come creeping back up.
Only when she and her friends get closer to him does she realize she's in too deep. Caden's presence makes her life a lot less perfect. His being around might mean danger, but he's also the only company that makes her feel alive. Libelle wants to make the same 180 in his life that he did for her. But outside factors like a sickening upbringing, moving to a new town, toxic encounters with his biological father, and his old teammates turning their backs on him makes it hard to fix his very broken soul. Libelle fails to realize that some things are determined to swallow us whole and wear us down until there's no strength left to fight it. Some souls are too far gone, but does that mean she shouldn't try and save him anyways?
