17 year old girl Alex Smith is a good straight A's type of gal. She is also assigned a heart tattoo. In her type of world, everyone who is a baby is born with a tattoo on their wrist. A heart one. Only a boy and a girl are supposed to have the same heart tattoo. Only TWO people have the same exact heart symbol. Once you find your match, you're supposed to be in love or it's supposed to be your true love. A new boy in her school, 18, Angel Waters walks into to school and instantly becomes the popular bad boy. When Alex gets a glimpse at his wrist she realizes he has the same heart tattoo as her. In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek.
