Liv is terrified of water--like, panic attack in the swimming pool terrified. So she stays in the driver's seat at the center of the HMS Pogue where she's always in control, and she watches her friends surf from a nice, dry patch of sand. Everyone knows why, but no one talks about it; because it wasn't supposed to happen.
Then again, a lot of things aren't supposed to happen. Like, for instance, Liv's brother isn't supposed to steal her paychecks to fuel his gambling problem. She isn't supposed to get shot at on the marsh. And she definitely isn't supposed to have a crush on JJ Maybank.

{Book 1/2} Growing up in the shadow of her older half brother, John B, would not have been the life Harley would have chosen. After being dumped there at age six, Harley learnt quickly, that when you're a pogue, you don't have the best of luck. After being blackmailed by JJ, her brothers annoying best friend, Harley somehow finds herself getting in way over her head on a treasure hunt with John B and his friends, and in the chaos of it all, she finds herself starting to accept the fact that maybe pogue life isn't that bad after all, and maybe a certain blonde headed pogue in particular, wasn't as annoying as she originally thought. For the purpose of this story and the content in it, Harley is sixteen at the start of season 1 and the Pogues/ kooks are aged up by 1 year.
