Emerson wants what every high schooler wants: stability, happiness, youth. Nothing comes easy, and what does turns out to be a complete and utter nightmare. A broken home, psychiatric hospital stays, and a physically abusive boyfriend drive her to turn all that hatred inward and can only cope by self mutilation. Just when there seems to be nothing real to hold on to, Emerson is given something so small, but it means everything in means of saving herself.

This is the story of an abused teenage girl, Maddie. Her need to die has become overwhelming and she is trying to find a way to help herself before she does something she may regret. The story is told from her point of view as she recalls all that has happened to her. Maybe telling her story will help her, maybe not. This isn't just any other sob story. This is more realistic.
