He leans closer, his cold breath fanning across her face, his black locks caressing the side of her temple.

'You're quite pretty, you know,' he whispers into the shell of her ear. 'Some of our kind prefer mortal women, for whatever reason.'

Persephone can't fight the nervous frown that surfaces, the way she fights a shiver, her rancor breaking. 'Not up to your standards?'

He leans back to give her room, stuffing one of his hands into his pockets, analyzing her carefully with distant eyes for a few moments. 'Not particularly.'
