Nala had been a lonely non-popular girl in her middle school. She loved skateboarding but fell a lot and always got laughed at. Lia had just moved to hillwater, Long Island. She always fell while skateboarding too. Both the girls had crushes in the boyband, The Rocks. Nala had a crush on Steve and Lia had a crush on Syd. All the boys names in the boyband were Steve, the lead guitarist, Syd, the lead bass player, and Newt, the lead singer. They also had backups but they werent very important in the band (no offense backups). I hope you enjoy this exciting story about the life of two 8th grade girls and 9th grade boys. This novella is loosely based on my own high school experiences... but sort of an alternate version of them. You can only make one set of choices in life, so it's fun to explore what could have been - but wasn't - in fiction. Also, set in 1991-92, this is kind of a period piece now! In some ways it's a love letter to the teen books I read back in the 80s and 90s, in particular those by Ellen Conford and Paula Danzinger. I hope you enjoy it. --Re-written-- When I was 8 we were playing hide and seek in the little park surrounded by bush down the street from my house. It was a large group of us. It was always fun down at the park, since our parents never really came and checked on us. I loved counting. The suspense. So I was counting. We counted to 90 so everyone could get the optimal spots in the park. The deal was that we never went too far into the bush. The boulder was our guide. I counted to 90, like normal, and then started looking. There were always specific spots that people hid in, so they were my first points to check. Oddly, no one was in any of them. But to my 8 year old self that made the whole thing better. I started looking hard. But didn't find anyone. I started to call out, starting to get worried.
