Charlotte Hopper lived the same ordinary life as everyone she knew. It's just that behind closed doors, you'll find that things are almost never how they seem. To the outside world her father was the sheriff of Hawkins, Indiana, but to her, he was a drunk who hadn't been able to get his shit together since her sister died.
With Charlotte looking forward to nothing but graduation, an absent mother who couldn't be bothered to speak with her daughter and your friendly neighborhood demogorgan snatching up the residents of Hawkins, her seemingly normal life became very far off from the picture perfect life of most Hawkins residents.
This isn't a story you hear about in all the books. No, this story was torn out of the book and thrown away, hidden from the entire world.
