Some time before the days of Marinette Dupain Cheng and Adrien Agreste, there was another team of heroes. And another villain.
Once upon a time, Deimos was training to be a Guardian of the Miraculous. It started out well. He was capable and strong enough to take every day on his shoulders, but he began to wonder why he couldn't use them. He was training to be a Guardian, to stop the Miraculous box from falling into the wrong hands. But that surely didn't mean that they couldn't be used by the right hands. The monks told him no. Deimos couldn't believe that so much power could go to such waste.
The day after they had told him no, the monks caught Deimos trying to steal the Miraculous box. There was a scuffle, and Deimos got away with three Miraculous: the butterfly, the dragon and the monkey.
And that was how Farfalla was born.
