They stared one another down. Lantana flowers and soft grass surrounded them, the distance between them was a cavern.

"Maybe," the man started, his eyes flitted across his face. "Maybe in another life I could be apart of that future, but this one I can't..."

His heart slowed its drumming rhythm. The air was fresh that came with the end of summer as fall latched onto every leaf and meadow. A tear slid down his pale skin. It glistened in the glowing sun that peeked behind the trees. 

And his voice wavered when he whispered out, "I can't lose you too."
