در روز ۱۵ اوت ۲۰۲۱، طالبان برای دومین بار در ۴۰ سال جهاد آمریکایی در افغانستان، وارد کابل شد. رسانه‌های جمهوری اسلامی، جهاد دوم آمریکا را که پس از حملات ۱۱ سپتامبر ۲۰۰۱ آغاز شد مبدأ زمانی دخالت امپریالیسم آمریکا در افغانستان نشان می‌دهند، و از این طریق نقش مشخص و غیرقابل انکار جمهوری اسلامی را در کنار سازمان‌های اطلاعاتی آمریکا، پاکستان، اسراییل، عربستان سعودی، و چین در شکل‌گیری طالبان، از دایره بررسی تاریخی و درس آموزی از گذشته کنار می‌گذارند.
