After Stiles has just been shunned by his best friend Scott for committing the murder of Donavon, breaking up with Malia and driven out of the pack Stiles is forced to deal with the many dangers that face him alone.  
You see even though the Nogitsune may have been destroyed Stiles was affected by his possession and needs to take certain pills in order to stop his body from being consumed by the darkness the Nogitsune left behind. But with dangers all around him Stiles may have no choice but to give into the very darkness that he has feared for so long.
