There's this saying that people have said repeatedly, "reach for the stars" and some bullshit about following your dreams, but what if those stars tease you? What if they hang just far enough away that your fingertips barely graze them? You can feel that heat getting closer to your flesh, but it doesn't ever get close enough to burn you, to make you feel something, anything. You keep reaching and stretching your limbs as far as they will go, feeling as if they're about to rip off of your body. It's almost as if the universe doesn't want you living in this lifetime. It just laughs in your face since the second you were born.

Life really gave Ireland Barlowe the short end of the stick. A terminal illness and an absent mother have sent her into a spiral. Her outlook on life isn't the brightest because she knows how it's going to end. She is going to leave this planet and no one will remember who she is after she's gone... right?
