Lady Loes of the Earthbound region of the Cold Kingdom is a viscous, loud, angry, 16-year-old girl, who goes against all efforts to turn her into a well-mannered lady.
Her Kingdom is barely holding onto a truce with the neighboring Kingdom, and Lady Loes is supposed to get married off to further sustain the truce; but instead, she runs off to pose as a peasant boy so that she can attend a School for Dragon riders, just like her twin brother, Jerry. 
However, the world turns against Loes once her cover is blown, and she if forced to escape to the Wildlands, where she learns a truth that threatens her nation, a truth so dangerous that she must return and fight to save the lives of those who had condemned her.
