Evan lives in a world where people who have facial deformities have to wear a mask. He goes to an ordinary school but is more of a loner because all of the other kids with deformities stay home to do chores for their families. One day, Hope, a pretty girl who is friends with everyone and who Evan has been crushing on for most of his life, came and sat next to him. That winter all of the kids with deformities died from a sickness. All except Evan. When he went back to school he asked Hope out. She said yes and from then on they hung out after school. Him with his mask on even though he was the only one left with a deformity. One day Hope went home with Evan and they started making out. She slowly moved his mask off if his face and once it was off she studied him and then told him that he didn't have to wear the mask anymore and that he was handsome the way he was. That he should show the world his beauty. His only reply was, I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think they'd understand.
