In english history, the majority of monarchs inherited the crown directly, and therefore were born of, royal parents. Therefore, somtimes, a monarch's mother, would not in fact be a Queen of England, for all sorts of reasons, though their sons would one day be king. These women would be known as The Mother of the King.
