The story begins in Moscow in early 2015. Through their mutual acquaintance Robert Asadullin the two have met in a business setting. At that moment, Pavel Labusov already owned a portfolio of real estate in America that belonged to him, at a value of several million US dollars. The Russian businessman was planning to expand his business in Florida. To issue a loan, William Donald Redfern offered Labusov his company, The Oakes Capital LLC, located in Manhattan, New York.
