Long ago the world broke. The lands rose from the seas and were cast beyond The White Horizon, never to be seen by the likes of the coloured- those who bend the light in their veins- again.
~*~*~*~*~
Kaimana Dayra is a mechanist living on the docks of the World Senate. She's content with her life creating breathing apparatuses for those affected by smog pollution, but her brother is not. Roule desires fortune, something he can only find over The White Horizon. When Kaimana's childhood mentor winds up dead, Roule is accused of murder and Kaimana of being his accomplice.
Now Roule is missing and Kaimana is on the run from the Senate and the Blac Dove, an assassin loyal to the highest bidder. It'll take more than her wits and abilities to bend solid colour for her to outmatch those who chase her. With the help of a bug obsessed child, a band of gypsies and their famed leader, and a map left to her by her idiotic brother, she will embark on the only quest she never wanted to take: crossing The White Horizon.

No one knows why or how they came onto the blue planet but that doesn't really matter anymore. One by one the humans started to disappear and were replaced by monsters until all that was left of them were their cities and knowledge. Legend has it that human survivors still exist and are living in the depths of a forest, right on the doorstep of the capital monster kingdom, Zyire. Protected and concealed by a magical border that burns monsters if they attempt to enter, the humans wait patiently for the right opportunity to strike and take back what once was theirs. 18 year-old human survivor Dawn lives within the borders of the forest, or as the humans call it, the Base. In the Base, the humans are separated into three groups; the Service, the Watchers and the Venturers. It is the Service's job to cook, what little food they have, and to heal the injured and sick. It is the Watcher's job to hide in the trees and scan the clearing, that lies before the forest's border, for monsters on the Venture days. It is the Venturers job to leave the forest borders on Venture days, and run into desolate cities to steal food, bedding and supplies that they need to survive. There is only one rule; never get caught. Venturer Dawn finds herself in a dangerous situation when she breaks the one rule. Dawn is caught by a monster, and not just any monster, but a monster who works as a Protector for their kind. Dawn soon learns that there are more to monsters than meets the eye. © 2016 by Heather Darte

After an apocalyptic event that thrusts the world into a new ice age, Calestia - a 17-year-old girl with a strong will - must learn to survive on a land infested with gangs, guns, and distrust. ***** Nobody knows what day it is anymore. Nobody knows the month, the day of the week...and the only way to tell time is by the slight change in the color of the sky from grey to black every twenty-four hours. If a day even is twenty-four hours anymore. The planet is dead. The people are dead. Snow falls down upon piles of bodies like the ash of a volcanic eruption. Except, the snow doesn't stop. It never does. It continues to fall and fall until you wonder if it is even possible for another flake to come down and land silently in your hair. But it does. They do. There are few survivors of what the remaining have started to call the end of the world. The Apocalypse. Few who are still brave or scared of death enough to face the torture that is living. I am one of those survivors. Book One of the Snow Series Highest ranking: #3 in Sci-Fi Watty's Shortlisted
