In this story, Monkey D. Luffy only fell until after he had reached Level 6 of Impel Down and found out that his brother, Portgas D. Ace had already been moved.

He agreed to get injected with a boost-type of hormone by Ivankov and remained headstrong even after he'd been warned that it could shave off about ten years of his life. After all, what is there to live for if he didn't at least try his best to help Ace escape the claws of the Reaper?

But something unexpected happened that shook the whole Newkama in their pointy boots.

And with no living survivors of the hormone, Ivankov couldn't really say that it was not supposed to happen.
