It was clear that the events of New York had left Tony with severe PTSD and anxiety, but the events didn't effect Emma as much anymore because she had Pepper Potts to help her. After Happy Hogan was severely injured by one of the bombings, an angry Tony gave a threatening promise to Mandarin on the news, which later caused a terrorist attack on Tony's own house, with Pepper and Emma inside. Everyone was left thinking Tony was dead, but he left Pepper and Emma a message, telling them he was alive.
