Captured, memory-wiped, numbered, stripped from her identity. All at the tender young age of 8. It all makes for a hell of a childhood, in a post-war pre-apocalyptic country, taken over by those who hold the youth of her age hostage. With no identity other than 6 numbers assigned to her, her outlook on her future is dull. Growing up listening to stories about the infamous torture method "The Box", she strays far from one of those who gets put in "The Box", she's not insane. Only those who are labeled insane are taken there...labeled, not proven. Drugged one morning, waking up an hour later, to windows and white light. The stories prepared her for nothing. Those daunting tales were nothing more than myths.

For the booksmart yet naïve 16-year-old Nicky, high school in her quaint little hometown island in the Philippines had always been predictable. Until that senior year. Nicky thought she got things all figured out. She'd be very good at school and be the valedictorian of the single-section class of 2010 of the highly looked-up science high school in their island. And then, she'd get a full scholarship to her dream university. All was fairly well except for a few things like grappling her feelings towards a long-time crush. Just when Nicky thought she could get through high school without too much boy-drama, a somewhat seemingly love life with a boy or two and suddenly, maybe even three was finally catching up with her during the last few months before high school graduation. She had never thought she could be wrong about a person. And that she could always be wrong about boys... ✨✨✨ Sidenote: I wrote this from November 2010 to April 2011, only a year ahead from the time set in the novel. They give us money every month so that we won't have to bother them when we need money for something. I could probably be happy about that if my life was actually good and not a living hell. My brother is 23 years old so he doesn't live with us anymore. He's really smart and he's been at Yale since he was 19. He's majoring in music. My little sister is 15 years old and she's super friendly. She's also really smart, but she doesn't act like it because she doesn't want to be judged.
