Maureen had been in the foster system for as long as she could remember and had never known her parents. Living in a girls' home, she was anxious to escape and the opportunity came when she was sixteen. She met half-brothers Matthew and Isa, Matthew a businessman and Isa a rookie cop, the older one without religious guidance and the younger one a Muslim. Without careful consideration, she believed Matthew's words of love and promises and believed he was the answer to her problems. Despite Isa's attempts to save her from the man he knew to be cruel and abusive, she married Matthew and regretted it from their wedding night. Seven years later, Maureen was trapped in an abusive marriage she desperately needed to escape from and had a six-year-old daughter Lana she tried her best to keep out of her husband's way and safe from his wrath. The day his rage reached their daughter, Maureen took the initiative she should have years ago and left him. Aided by Isa, she filed for divorce and started picking up pieces of her life. Months after the divorce from Matthew, she married Isa, accepting the offer of financial stability, a home, and a man to help her raise her child. However, her former marriage had broken her in more ways than one and it was an ongoing struggle not to recoil every time her husband approached and to trust him. However, slowly, both Lana and Maureen learned to trust and Maureen began to see the man she'd married for just security through different eyes and began to see the faith and belief that drove him as her path, too.
